We want to be part of the movement of surfers who are working hard to make the surfing industry better reflects surfers’ principles and their love for the oceans. We can be part of it in our own way, with the tools we dominate.
MAKE A PRO-SURFBOARD 100% ORGANIC
We will develop a few prototypes of professional surfboards replacing the petrochemical-derived foam with a high-performance bio-composite. The analysis to validate the production process and the replicability of the bio- composite for a large-scale production is not part of this project.
IT IS NOT FOR BUSINESS
We are not willing to start a business. Anybody can replicate our project and we will be very happy if other people want to participate with their knowledge to create even better bio-composite foams. What moves us is not the desire of creating an exclusivity but something exclusive for the entire community.
YOU CAN'T STOP THE WAVES, BUT YOU CAN LEARN HOW TO SURF
This project is a huge challenge: a completely new bio-based foam with the right performances in terms of flexibility and strength need to be created. There are a lot variables and elements which have to be combined together on the right way and with the right timing. This is why it is worth trying. We are surfers also here: we cannot step back and look at this big wave without trying to ride it, we need to be part of it.
Our surfboard would be the first high-performance 100% bio-based board ever made
Besides for wooden surfboards, the core of all surfboards is usually made
by petrochemical-derived foam (expanded polystyrene or polyurethane) encased in fiberglass.
The project aims to replace the petrochemical-derived foam with a
high-performance biocomposite made by mixing organic waste such as plant stalks and seed husks with mycelium (the vegetative growth stage of a mushroom).
Moreover, the fiberglass will be replaced by a layer of wood and flax.
